Hi! I cannot express how humbling it truly is to do this within a week of coming back to this site but of all things, I’m having a vet emergency at this very moment. I’m sitting at the vet as I type this. Little Bird came down with a gastrointestinal illness we’re currently trying to diagnose. It’s potentially acute pancreatitis despite her low fat diet, because she’s five and the vet says these things can just happen to middle-aged female dogs.
It might be a mercifully less serious illness, but we don’t know yet. They need to run labwork and give her fluids. This is the current estimate:

I’m happy to say I am mostly financially secure these days, a far cry from where I used to be with my seasonal fieldwork and in college, but like many full time employed people in this country, I’m usually one emergency away from trouble.
This bill is the current estimate, but it’s going to increase with more testing and treatment in the coming days, especially if it turns out to be pancreatitis.
I frankly cannot afford this bill this week, eight days out from my next paycheck.
I don’t even have a business paypal or Venmo anymore so those are the options.
I think the old rules apply for when I used to accept tips and wishlist items, which were mainly that I ask you don’t tip if you’re under 20. And please don’t strain YOURSELF.

Hey Everyone- Mallaidh-anne and Little Bird are both very good friends of mine and this emergency is coming at a truly wretched time. While this is the initial bill, there will probably be more, so anything you can do helps- donate, even a couple dollars, or signal boost this, and you will help out so, so much.
Watching how two dogs who love each other will sometimes still nip each other on the ear, bug them while they sleep, etc… watching how cats will snuggle with their buddy all day and then paw-smack ‘em in the face, chase them, play-fight…
Makes me, as a fellow social mammal, feel better about my urge to be incredibly annoying to another human sometimes. Like, yeah. Of course I wanna bug you. Of course it’s fun to annoy you. We’re social creatures and annoyance can be part of play, something we all need. And I watch these dogs who get their ears nipped, cats who get smacked out of a nap, and despite BEING annoyed, they don’t stop loving their packmate. After they finish play-fighting, they’re back to snuggling and grooming and sleeping together. BEING annoyed is also just part of being in a social group and having relationships… and that’s okay. It doesn’t erase love or necessarily make them mad or affect them in the long term… a loved one being annoyed with me is a temporary feeling that’s normal for social creatures. An annoyance that wouldn’t be possible WITHOUT that love
